Frequently asked questions

What is voice typing / dictation?+

You speak into your microphone and your words appear as text in a Google Docs-style editor. It's the fastest way to get Bangla, Hindi, or English text down when you can't (or don't want to) type.

Which languages can I dictate?+

Bangla, Hindi, and English — select the one you'll speak before pressing the mic. The recognition uses your browser's speech engine, so supported languages follow what your browser/OS offers.

Which browsers support voice typing?+

Chrome and other Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave) give the most reliable speech recognition. Firefox and Safari support varies by version and operating system. You'll also need to allow microphone access when prompted.

Do I need a special microphone?+

No. Any built-in laptop mic, webcam mic, or phone mic works. A quiet room and speaking close to the mic improve accuracy far more than expensive hardware.

Is my voice uploaded to a server?+

The audio is processed by your browser's speech engine. Chromium-based browsers typically send audio to a cloud service for recognition; if that's a concern, review your browser's privacy settings. The transcribed text stays in your document.

Can I edit and format the text afterwards?+

Yes. The editor is Google Docs-style with a full formatting toolbar — bold, italic, headings, lists, and more — so you can dictate a rough draft, then clean it up by hand.

How accurate is the transcription?+

Accurate for clear speech in a quiet setting, but expect occasional errors with accents, fast speech, names, or mixed-language sentences. Punctuation usually needs fixing, so proofread before publishing.

Can I copy the result into other apps?+

Yes — select and copy the text into Word, WhatsApp, email, or anywhere. If it's Bangla, it's plain Unicode, so it'll render correctly everywhere.

Does it work on mobile?+

Voice typing works best on Chrome for Android/desktop. On iOS, use Safari/Chrome but expect more variation. A phone's built-in mic is usually fine for dictation.

Is voice typing free here?+

Yes — free with no sign-up. It's one of LearnType's in-browser utilities, complementing our free typing courses for Bangla, English, Hindi, and Arabic.
