How to Type Bengali Numbers and Punctuation: Complete Reference
Bengali digits ০–৯, দাঁড়ি (।), taka sign (৳), and all punctuation marks — complete key reference for Avro and Bijoy, with a practice passage covering every case.

Bengali Digits (০–৯)
Bengali uses its own set of digits distinct from Arabic numerals (0–9). Both forms appear in modern Bengali writing, but official documents, literature, and formal text conventionally use Bengali digits.
| Bengali | Arabic | Avro input |
|---|---|---|
| ০ | 0 | 0 |
| ১ | 1 | 1 |
| ২ | 2 | 2 |
| ৩ | 3 | 3 |
| ৪ | 4 | 4 |
| ৫ | 5 | 5 |
| ৬ | 6 | 6 |
| ৭ | 7 | 7 |
| ৮ | 8 | 8 |
| ৯ | 9 | 9 |
In Avro: by default, pressing 1 produces ১, 2 produces ২, and so on. This can be toggled in Avro settings if you need Arabic numerals alongside Bengali text.
Bengali Punctuation Reference
দাঁড়ি (।) — sentence-ending mark
The functional equivalent of a full stop. Every declarative Bengali sentence ends with ।
Avro: | (pipe key) or the dedicated দাঁড়ি key
Example: আমি বাংলায় টাইপ করছি।
Comma (,)
Same as English comma. Used for list items and subordinate clauses.
Avro: direct , key
Question mark (?)
Avro: direct ? key
Exclamation mark (!)
Avro: direct ! key
Quotation marks (" " / ' ')
Bengali uses English-style quotation marks in most Unicode contexts.
Avro: direct " or ' key
Taka sign (৳)
The official currency symbol for the Bangladeshi Taka. Avro: Unicode input — ৳ (U+09F3). Some Avro versions map it to a dedicated key.
Bijoy Digits and Punctuation
In Bijoy, Bengali digits require Shift + number key. দাঁড়ি (।) = Shift + Q in standard Bijoy layout.
This is one area where many Bijoy users make errors initially — the number keys alone produce special characters, not digits. For a full Bijoy vs Avro comparison of input methods, see Avro vs Bijoy: Which Is Better for Typing Bengali Conjuncts?.
Practice Passage
Type this paragraph — it exercises Bengali digits, দাঁড়ি, comma, question mark, and exclamation:
"আজকের আবহাওয়া কেমন? বৃষ্টি হবে কি না জানি না! তবে ছাতা নিয়ে বের হওয়া ভালো।" তিনি বললেন, "দেরি করো না।"
সংখ্যা: আমাদের দলে ১৫ জন সদস্য আছেন। তাদের মধ্যে ৭ জন নারী এবং ৮ জন পুরুষ।
