SolaimanLipi Bangla Font — Free Unicode Download
SolaimanLipi is the most widely used free Unicode Bangla font — clean, highly readable, and the default choice for Bangla on the web, in MS Word, and across social media.
June 24, 2026
SolaimanLipi is the most popular free Unicode Bangla font in the world, and if you are looking to download SolaimanLipi for Word, the web, or social media, it is the font most readers will already see your Bangla text in. Designed for both screen and print, it renders every Bangla conjunct (যুক্তবর্ণ) correctly and has become the de-facto standard for Bangla typing in Microsoft Word, web pages, PDFs, and Facebook. If you type Bangla with Avro or any Unicode keyboard, SolaimanLipi is almost certainly the font your output gets displayed in.

Why SolaimanLipi is so popular
- True Unicode — works everywhere without a special converter, unlike legacy Bijoy fonts.
- Excellent readability at small sizes, which is why newspapers, blogs, and government documents use it.
- Free for personal and commercial use, so you can ship it in documents and designs without licensing worries.
- Full conjunct support — complex clusters like ক্ষ, ঞ্জ, and ত্র display cleanly.
Because it is Unicode, text typed in SolaimanLipi stays searchable, copy-pasteable, and portable. You can paste it into an email, a browser, or a phone and it will still read as Bangla even if the recipient does not have the exact font installed — their device simply substitutes another Unicode Bangla face. That portability is the single biggest reason to prefer it over the older Bijoy/ANSI fonts described on the SutonnyMJ page.
How to install SolaimanLipi
Windows
- Download the
.ttffile. - Right-click it and choose Install (or open it and click Install).
- Restart MS Word — SolaimanLipi now appears in the font list.
If you have admin rights and want it available to every user on the PC, right-click and choose Install for all users instead.
macOS
- Double-click the
.ttffile. - Click Install Font in Font Book.
- If Font Book flags a duplicate, choose Resolve Automatically so the active copy is the one apps use.
Linux
- Copy the
.ttfinto~/.fonts/(or~/.local/share/fonts/). - Run
fc-cache -f -vto refresh the font cache. - Confirm it registered with
fc-list | grep -i solaiman.
Android / iPhone
Mobile devices already render Unicode Bangla with their system font, so you usually do not need to install SolaimanLipi just to read Bangla. For design apps (such as PixelLab or Canva-style editors) that allow custom fonts, import the .ttf wherever the app exposes a "custom font" or "upload font" option.
Common problems and fixes
Font not showing in Word
Word caches its font menu, so a freshly installed font often appears only after a full restart of the application — not just closing the document. If it still does not appear, reinstall the .ttf and check that the file is not blocked: in Windows, right-click the file, open Properties, and tick Unblock if you see that option.
Garbled Roman letters instead of Bangla
If a document shows scrambled English-looking characters, the text was almost certainly created in a legacy Bijoy font (like SutonnyMJ) rather than Unicode. SolaimanLipi cannot "fix" that text by itself — you need the original legacy font, or a legacy-to-Unicode conversion. See the SutonnyMJ guide for the legacy-vs-Unicode story.
Boxes, tofu, or missing conjuncts
Empty rectangles mean no Bangla-capable font is being applied. Select the text and explicitly set the font to SolaimanLipi. If individual conjuncts look broken, confirm you are on a recent OS with a modern text-shaping engine, since older systems mishandle complex clusters.
Where SolaimanLipi is and isn't the right choice
Set SolaimanLipi as your default Bangla font in MS Word, Google Docs (upload it first), Photoshop, and Illustrator. It is an outstanding body-text font — long paragraphs, reports, articles, and PDFs read comfortably in it.
Where it is not ideal: very large display headings and logos, where its even, text-oriented weight can feel a little plain. For those, reach for a font with more character such as Kalpurush or Nikosh at heading sizes and keep SolaimanLipi for the body.
Pairing suggestions
| Use case | Body font | Heading font |
|---|---|---|
| Reports & documents | SolaimanLipi | Nikosh |
| Blog / long-form reading | SolaimanLipi | Kalpurush |
| Bilingual Bangla + English | SolaimanLipi | A humanist sans (Inter / Segoe UI) |
When mixing Bangla and English, match the visual weight so neither script overpowers the other, and give Bangla a touch more line height because its tall conjuncts need room.
Make the most of your new font
A great font only shows its best with fluent typing. SolaimanLipi pairs naturally with Avro Phonetic — type Bangla the way it sounds and the polished output appears in SolaimanLipi. Frequently asked questions
Is SolaimanLipi free for commercial use?+
Yes. SolaimanLipi is free for both personal and commercial use, so you can embed it in documents, posters, and client designs without buying a licence. This is one of the main reasons it became the de-facto standard Bangla font for offices, publishers, and the web.
Why is my Bangla text not showing in SolaimanLipi in MS Word?+
First confirm the font installed correctly, then fully close and reopen Word so it re-reads the font list. If your text still falls back to another face, select the Bangla text and manually set the font to SolaimanLipi, and make sure you are typing in a Unicode keyboard such as Avro rather than a legacy Bijoy layout.
Why does Bangla show as boxes or tofu instead of letters?+
Empty boxes (often called "tofu") mean the device has no Bangla-capable font for that text, so it cannot draw the glyphs. Installing SolaimanLipi or any Unicode Bangla font fixes it, and on phones the built-in system font usually already covers Bangla for reading.
Is SolaimanLipi a Unicode or Bijoy font?+
SolaimanLipi is a true Unicode font, not a legacy Bijoy/ANSI font. That means it works everywhere without a converter and displays correctly in browsers, email, and social media — unlike SutonnyMJ-style Bijoy fonts that only render when both the font and Bijoy layout are present.
