About Space Typer

Space Typer is a free space typing game and the most action-packed title on LearnType — a type-to-shoot space shooter in the spirit of ZType. Enemy fighters drop in from every direction — scouts, bombers, mother-ships — and they all fire homing missiles back at your defender ship. Every enemy and every missile carries a word over its head; type that word and it's gone.

The lock-on typing mechanic keeps the game readable in chaos: type the first letter of any visible word and you're committed to that target. Subsequent letters fire laser bolts from your wing cannons until the word is finished and the target detonates in a particle explosion. If you've played ZType, this is a free ZType alternative that runs in your browser with no sign-up — and unlike every other space typing shooter, it isn't English-only.

Space Typer runs on LearnType's canonical typing engine — the same Avro, Bijoy, InScript and Remington key maps that power our typing lessons and government typing-exam practice — so the same space typing shooter plays in English, Bangla (Avro Phonetic or Bijoy) and Hindi (Phonetic, InScript, Remington). That makes it one of the few typing games that doubles as real practice for Indian and Bangladeshi typing tests, not just an English toy.

Waves get bigger and faster, and every fifth level is a boss — a giant mothership with a long word and a screen-shaking explosion. Power-ups occasionally drop after kills: nukes that clear the screen, slow-mo, and shields that absorb a missile. It's rated Advanced, so warm up with Balloon Pop or Flappy Typer first if you're new to touch typing.

How to Play Space Typer

From start screen to high score in under a minute.

1

Lock on

Finish the word

Continue typing — wing cannons fire bolts until the word is complete and the target explodes.

3

Move to dodge

Use arrow keys to dodge incoming homing missiles you didn't type in time.

4

Watch your lives

Missile hits and enemies escaping past the bottom both cost a life. Game over at zero hearts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know about Space Typer.

Is Space Typer free to play?
Yes — Space Typer is 100% free, runs in your browser, and needs no sign-up or download. Type to shoot and defend your ship.
Is Space Typer a space typing game?
Yes. Space Typer is a space typing game where you type the word on each enemy or missile to shoot it — a type-to-shoot shooter built for typing speed and accuracy.
Is Space Typer a free ZType alternative?
Yes. Space Typer is a free, browser-based space typing shooter in the same style as ZType — you type words to shoot enemies and missiles, with wave defense and a boss every fifth wave. No sign-up or download.
How is Space Typer different from other space typing games?
It's one of the only space typing shooters with full Bangla and Hindi support. The same game runs in English, Bangla (Avro Phonetic and Bijoy) and Hindi (Phonetic, InScript, Remington) on LearnType's canonical typing engine — so it's real exam practice, not just an English toy.
Can I use Space Typer as a type-to-shoot typing test?
Yes. The live HUD tracks WPM, accuracy, level and destroyed count every run, so you can use it as a fast type-to-shoot typing test to measure speed and accuracy under pressure.
Can I play Space Typer in Bangla?
Yes. Pick Bangla on the launcher or add ?lang=bangla to the URL, then choose Avro Phonetic or Bijoy — the engine validates every keystroke against the official layout.
Does Space Typer support Hindi InScript and Remington?
Yes. Space Typer supports Hindi in all three layouts — Phonetic (type as you speak), InScript (the Indian government standard), and Remington (the typewriter layout used in SSC, CPCT and state typing exams).
Why do my keystrokes sometimes do nothing?
Once you start typing a word you're locked onto that target. Wrong keys won't break the lock — that's intentional, so accidental keystrokes don't switch you to another enemy. Press Esc to release.
Are bosses harder than regular waves?
Bosses have longer words and take a few seconds to type out, but they fire fewer missiles. The challenge is finishing their word while dodging incoming fire from minions.
Is Space Typer good for kids and beginners?
It's rated Advanced, so younger kids and complete beginners should warm up with Balloon Pop (single letters) or Flappy Typer first. Space Typer suits older students and adults who already touch-type and want a faster drill.
Does Space Typer help with real typing speed?
Yes. Surviving waves forces you to read whole words, scan for first letters, and type without looking at the keyboard — the same muscle-memory loop our typing courses build, but at arcade pace.
Does it work on mobile?
Space Typer needs a physical keyboard. On a tablet you can pair a Bluetooth keyboard, but touch input isn't supported.
